Its been a HECTIC, TIRING, week. I just finished my first block exams. Yep your heard rite. Ive been in Manipal for 10 week, and in that short period of time, the entire upper and lower limb has been covered. And I have been examined on it. It was TOUGH.
In all my life, i have never been ayaw from home during an exam, never had to wake up and make my own breakfast before going for the exam, or my own lunch for tht matter. In this aspect, I missed home during this exam. Imagine.. before the biochem paper, I had no time to eat on account of having opened my biochme notes only the night before, due to the amount of anatomy i had to prepare for which left me with hardly enough time to prepare adequately for Biochem and for physio.
So on the day of the biochem paper i was SWAMPED. Swamped with pathways(which thanks to Dr UK was already memorised:D), enzymes, and god knows what else to memorise! end hence ended up eating Parle G for lunch :P( google parle g if u wanna know what it is ppl)
Other then the exams, this week has been pretty uneventful, and in manipal... unevenful is a norm la.. nothing much happens around here, which leads to the biggest gossip-mongers-being born in manipal. WHic in my opinion is kinda sad cos u see theres nothing much to gossip about excet who is going out wiht who.. or who got on who's bike.. or who did what etc.
( LOL I JUST REALISED ETC COULD ALSO MEAN ELECTRON TRANSPORT CHAIN>)
So really the only entertainment is other peoples lives. Which is just plain sad.
So we thought tht thisweekend, we'd go to mangalore( a city about 2 hours away), to watch a movie n eat pizza( i know our exsitance is sad). But then Mumbai got bombed and we all got calls from our parents telling us to find bomb shelters and go barricade ourselves in them with tins of jacobs cream crackers and cream of chicken soup and stay there till it was safe to come out (:P).
But seriously, people called, random people and said pls stay safe.. dont die in india. So for the record people i dont intend to die in india k?!we like good kids stayed within the vicinity of manipal n udupi, two villages, with nothing to do.
So Kathy,Linda n I decided to take matters into our own hands. WE WENT SHOPPING. It was like a regular girls day out!! We went cloth shopping( this is india ppl. It equivalent to a day spent at gurney!), and spent a whole lot of $$$ resulting in the fact that were doomed to eating UR Choice Mess everyday( RS 4o per meal)Looks like no more chicken tikka biryani for me!
But it was fun. Seriously. We bargained... Linda expericenced the whole Walk out of the shop cos the price is too high n then get called back to buy the bag scenario( She became a woman). We all bought Henna which in india is equivalent to a tattoo!! LOL
A nice relaxing day after a week of streess :D

Im an Addict
Thats right. You read the title correctly. I admit. Openly, freely, without shame. I am an addict.
Now the questions come.. addicted to what?
It is the single most satisfying substance, without which, I become a GROUCH.
It is MENTOS. Now, the history of my mentos addiction dates back to the month of January, 2007.
Room 300, KDU college Penang.
As I sat listening to lectures on Bio, Chem, etc, i found them to be most sleep inducing! There was but ONE soution. MENTOS.
Noor L N Shobi were appalled at the amount of mentos i used to consume daily, which led me to praise the lord that the two of them did not see me today! Over the entire weekend, I did not have even a single one of those incredible chewy dragees! This morning we had an anat test. So it wasnt surprising that i felt stressed. What was surpriseing was that after the test was over, I felt worse! I normally feel great after a test!
This continued till 3.35 pm in the afternoon, when i made the pilgrimage to Sonia and bought two tubes of mentos. And finished them on the way to histo. I felt like me again!
:D
So u see ppl. I NEED the MENTOS. Its essential!!!!
Ps Noor L. ur clones here. Her Name is Puteri Helena(rempit) and she dissapproves of my mentos habbits. I wont go in to the details buts lets just say im worse then before :D
that is all

Confusion.
After the lecture the other day on respecting the cadaver, Many thoughts have run throigh my mind on the subject.
I am amazed at myself. I am amazed that I, who will shed tears for the dead dog on the side of the road, feel nothing towards the dead man that lies naked, stripped of all dignity, on the table before me. I am scared to be honest. Scared that I have lost the ability tp feel. I sit almost everyday for 2 hours a day in a hall surrounded by the dead. Their bodies in grotesque condition. How I am i able to stomach it? More importantly WHY am I able to stomach it.
I honestly felt nothing for the dead man, until yesterday. Yesterday i saw them slicing a man or woman in half. They sawed the person in to two. Splitting open the skull, cutting right through the body.
I know its their job. I know that they perhaps have no other way to make a living. But i cannot, for the life of me accept what they did. I understand that it is all in the name of science. But I also now understand why science without control on it is madness.
Think. If it was you. If it was your body that they were SAWING in half. Separating you. You dont know what will happen to the other half of your body. Will it be burnt? will it be burried? or will it simple be cut up further for more specimens? or worse, will it be simply abandoned down the rubbish chute?
What if it was your body i was dissecting? Your muscles i was tugging, your nerves i was tracing.
For the first time, it hit me. What if it was me?
Would i want to be treated this way? would i want to lie dead, cold, exposed to the world?
Would i want to be put in a freezer every day and be dragged out and dropped on a colod steel table every morning?
Did he, the man who we now dissect want to be treated this way? Or did he have no say what so ever in the matter? Did he make the desicion to be ont he table in forn of me by himself? or was that desicions made for him when he could have no say in the matter.
And how can I, a person who has always prided herself in having principles and sticking to them not feel anything for the person??
I know that I learn from him, and for that, from the bottom of my heart, form a place where words cannot express my gratitude, i thank you sir.
Sometimes i wonder, will our lecturers donate their bodies to medical science? Knwoing the way that cadavers are treated. With so little dignity, Will they give themselves for our future generations to learn?
These questions now plague my mind. I hate myself for not being able to do anything about it.
That is NOT all.

EMO
EMO> Thts how im feeling today.... god knows why! The weekend was really fun!! We went to Malpe... which is the beach nearby. I could just sit there for hours on end. Its so peaceful, and after a hectic day.. it was nice just for once to sit n look at the sky and not think of the net PBL,SDL,Class Test, Block. It was soo.. calming.
Ive changed since coming to Manipal. I know I have. Ive been noticing little things about myslef. I dont really like it. I like who i used to be. Life is different. Or maybe its different cos im EMO, but then the only constant thing in life is change isnt it. I wish Leena n Shobi N Gajen n all were here. I wish tht sharmeen was here. I wish tht Sindhu was here. I need these people.. They get me. They get tht sometimes i dont wanna talk. I just wanna sit there and know that they're there.
but honestly most of all, besides my mum n dad, i want my 6 babies. My Brownie. My Rocky. My Pixie. My Marie. My Scamp and my Daisy. I miss them soo much. I spoke to them yesterday. Rocky actually spoke back to me. Those of you who've met him know la. I MISS THEM!!!!
SIGH.
Life is like tht. I have gotten back into my literature mode. Looking uo quotes n all that. My new favourite is this one.
I slept and dreamt that life is joy
I woke and found that life is service
I acted and Behold, Life is joy.
(Rabindranath Tagore)
:)
Explains life so clearly doesnt it.
I'm still emo. but happier knowing that you guys are reading this n thinking of me. Missing all of u!

Deepavali Greetings to all!!
Today is Deepavali day. The festival of lights. I'm here in India.. it was a day to remember. Very different from home but so meaningful in its own way. My dad came to spend deepavali with me here in Manipal,Which made the festival feels less lonely.
The celebrations started last night itself! Our class, bought firecrackers( Which are SO NOT BANNED in India!), and we spent Sunday night, form 930 onwards playing!!. We had soo much fun! Will post those pics later k. Our class has some budding pyrotechies!! It was funny to see these guys go with the macho swagger to light the fireworks and then run for their lives once it was lit!! We camwhored and took LOADS of pics I MEAN LOADS of pics !!
Fastforward, Deepavali day. Woke up at 6 to go to temple.. we went to the old anfd very famous udupi krishna temple. It was so beautiful. So so beautiful. Went with my classmates, dad didnt follow la. But it was still great!!
After tht we came back and I headed back to Valley View to go see daddy. Then we all went for lunch. Lunch was fun except for Poor Arifin.. He had a tummy upset!! I think it was the drinks they boys had last night. You see, drinking water here that isnt mineral water is very very unsafe!! No matter how long it has been boiled for, our poor malaysian stomachs cant take it!! We need BISLERI, or AQUAFINA :D
and these fellers, im sure, drank the water that the shop people pioured for them and didnt ask for mineral water!! And the result, Arifin's aching tummy!! Poor thing, for the first time i saw him soo quiet!
After lunch, Mathan n Amar took him to the KMC student clinic, but it ws closed. SO then they headed back and were supposed to go the Sonia clinic later.
The girls(Pat Linda Vanessa Vanessa helena ) n I headed back to uni. In the evening, There was a fireworks display at the KMC greens. The university organised this. It was in one word FANTASTIC( or as Dr R would say EXCELLENT WONDERFUL FANTASTIC :P)
But seriously it was great!! the air filled with birght colours, shades of green blue red and yellow. It really gave a nice ned to the whole day...
and thts Deepavali in Manipal.
The university is kind. Right after Deepavali holiday( which is onle ONE day), we have an anatomy test. So no poins for guessing how i shall spend the night.

One Month
So I've been in India a month now. Time flies doesn't it. It feels like barely yesterday that i first landed in the Bangalore International Airport and made the journey to Manipal.
During our first PPD lesson, The lecturer spoke to us about not becoming 'zombified' throughout our five years in mediccal school. I think the 'zombification' process has already begun! In the begining, we( i personally), found it hard to sit next to the cadaver. The thought that this was once a live, breathing humna being kept popping into my head. The idea of tugging at his skin, pulling at his muscles, worried me. No however, It doesnt bother me at all. Then comes the thought of what have we become??!! We are immune to the sight of a dead person in front of us. We work all day and have no qualms of working all night. A case in point. Yesterday we finished a Physiology test. So the rest of the day was off. Instead of doing something interesting( shopping or just hanging out together) all of us( Me Vanessa Winnie, Mathan Arifin n Amardeep) all went back to our individual rooms and SLEPT. Yes we SLEPT in the afternoon for the first time in Manipal.
On the other hand, we have some fun as well.. I shall upload some pictures to prove my point.

Kasbah Dinner t Valley View

Divya's Birthday + Indian student gathering at temple

Basketball on a sunday evening.
Thats some of the things ive been upto in manipal.. t
So now i shall sign off and clean my room as this is sunday morning routine. And then meet everyone for lunch.. and then hit the anat!.

Update
So an update on life here in Manipal..
Its been pretty Ok so far.. work load is INCREDIBLE. We only do 3 subjects in first year but eve then!! Anatomy( everyday) Physiology and Biochemistry. Its seems like a bit,but its actually ALOT!!!
Otherwise things have been ok. Apart from the inseeming lack of hot water at the tiems when hot water is absolutely essential... my room is greaat!! The other day was a frens birthday so we attempted to "bake" and Unbaked cheese cake for her.. it turned out to be cheese jelly... which tasted great!!!
Other then that i cant think of anything significant enough to post here.. hope life is good with everyone!!
